For all the amateur radio operators and those who want to learn more about it the annual ARRL Field Day is coming up June 23-24.

What is Field Day? (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Field_Day)

Local amateur radio clubs will be each hosting their own Field Day that you can visit, I live in Arlington and the Arlington club is doing theres at UTA-Arlington if anybody is interested in coming by.

How was field day in Arlington? I was in Nacogdoches visiting family and managed to hit their local club's field day on Saturday afternoon. Only about 12 or so people running 3 HF radios (2 voice and 1 CW). I listened for a while (on maybe 20 meters, I think), but didn't really hear anything but noise. They had made about 50+ contacts at the station I was checking out earlier that day. Wasn't able to stay too long because my mother and wife were with me and they became bored rather quickly. They were also the only two ladies there!

I did not go to any Field Day events this year. Too busy running around in the Jeep. It started driving different for some reason.

I did hear that 20 Meters was dead and everyone had a had time with contacts.

I hate to say it, but I didn't enjoy my visit to the AARC Field Day.
I'm not a member of AARC and I figured I could just show up and meet some of the guys, and sadly they are no where near as warm as LSJC members are!
So I spent some time standing around while they had their noses too buried in trying to make contacts and made no time for people wanting to check it out...

Don't get me wrong I understand the main drive of Field Day is emergency preparedness and all but I couldn't help but feel out of place and so I left.
