I might be interested. Website says $7 for adults, kids 12 and under free.

FYI,

Sportman's Warehouse in Lewisville (Hebron Pkwy by Target) is going out of business. Everything, including Guns, is 10% off. Better Hurry, lot of guys standing in line.

Well, it only took me about 3 hours from seeing this post to run down, pick up a M&P45, and make it back home. $50 off from Sportman's, plus a $50 rebate from Smith and Wesson. Not a bad deal. I figured I couldn't do much better at the gun show. They are all about 10%-ish off. Some more some less. Guy behind the counter said they will stop selling in the next day or two.

Camping stuff was 20-30% off so I'm sure someone will be able to get a good deal on some of that stuff.

I know I started this thread, but it looks like I may now be hitting DFW Gun Range (http://www.dfwgun.com/) instead of going to the gun show this weekend so I can try out the new toy.

I think you probably did better than the Gun Show too. I heard the guy tell another that they were to sell only the guns on display and not the stock in the back. I hate that they are closing.

They had lots of the Hi-Jack lifts too.

Just got back, Gun sales at Sportsman end tonight at 8pm close. As already mentioned, all are 10% off.

Looks like I'm going to be working most of the weekend, so I won't be making it to the show for sure, and may not even make it to the range. I'll probably be hitting Big Town the next weekend with my Dad, as he is on the hunt for an over/under.

My choice for a bird weapon. What kind of O/U is he looking for?

Do they perform appraisals at these gun shows?

I have a pump action 22 and I would like to know what it is worth.

Nothing so official...there will be many dealers willing to make offers, but they will low-ball you if you dont know what its worth.

Just walk in with it, and either put a sign on it, or ask the vendors, or wait for someone to ask you about it.

Browning or Beretta. He is looking at used guns now because he doesn't want throw down for a new one. He was wanting to hook up with a used dealer he met the last time he was out at Big Town. I'd love a O/U, but Jeep and other cheaper firearm purchases keep getting in the way, ha!

If you haven't bird hunted before I suggest considering a Remington Express Pump. They are very inexpensive around 200.00 new and cheaper used and they are lighter to carry all day. The O/U has 2 barrels so they are heavier. An auto will be lighter than the O/U but heavier than a pump plus the pump is one of the most reliable actions.
I have a Browning O/U Hunter I have had for 15 years and it is great for Skeet and Sporting Clays, I have a Benelli also that I like for Sporting Clays but when I go hunting I take the Express Pump.

Just thoughts to consider, Of course if you have hunted with different ones already then you should have a feel for what you want.

I'm guessing the gun will see more time out at Elm Fork than out bird hunting. We only made it out twice this past dove season. I have a Remington Wingmaster that runs alright, but I'm so spoiled with the auto that I don't like using the pump unless I go out somewhere nasty or where there is a good bit of walking (pump is the only one with a strap).

I just got back from the GS. As usual, 90% of it is the same people selling the same crap. I did pick up a few AK parts and some ammo, but that was it.

You should check out the Mossberg over/under. It is less than $500, IIRC, and I am pretty satisfied with it.

I got back from the gun show a little while ago. Saw a few good deals. Got too crowded for my taste and too hot and I bailed before I could get to the last couple of isles. A friend of mine did get a good deal on a new Glock and a new S&W revolver.

You weren't kidding about the parts kits. I asked a couple of the dealers about their parts kits and they told me they have dried up, and things don't look good for them. I'm going to see if I can order at least one kit from one of the online sources before they're gone. One guy had some half way parts kits, but not enough to consider it a parts kit. He was more interested in selling the parts individually.

--I just spent $200 on a receiver flat, a parts kit with the G2 fire control group, and the rivets. Looks like I got one in time. Now I just need to make a jig to bend the flat.

I saw three guys with kits today. One was on the south wall, only had one Hungarian folder kit, and a bunch of parts. I got a couple recoil springs from him. Didnt catch his name, but he seemed like a nice guy, and his prices were fair.

Saw another dealer that had some Romanian kits for $135. That is actually a decent price these days, if they will include tax with it. One other dealer had a bunch of Romanian kits for $185. In a year that will probably be the going rate, but its too much to pay now. I was looking for a Yugo underfolder flat, but no one had any. Most of the prices there were too high anyway.

I built my own bending jig from scrap metal and some metal strips from Lowes. Its crude, but works.

Initially I bent it with a hammer after placing it between the two bars. I later made a female piece with some square tubing to press it into.

Forgot to ask this earlier, but if anyone happens to remember (if you are going on Sunday), can you post up the GS price for a Glock 17 and a S&W M&P45? I seem to always write them down and then loose the piece of paper it was on.

I didn't see much, but it was seriously crowded when we first got there, and then we skipped a couple of aisles toward the end. I ordered this kit.

I've never built an AK, but I've torn it down as far as it'll go, aside from taking the rivets out. Should be fun. What finish do you use? I found a couple of decent bake on finishes in a Midway catalog.

Most of the new GLOCKS I saw were 475-500, but I wasnt really looking.

With these, most dealers are usually fairly close in price.

What rivet tool do you use? I'm assuming I need a heavy Duty rivet tool, or is there a special purpose tool needed? I know I can use bolts, but that seems like it would look cheesy.

The DPH kits I have seen are nice, and thats one of the better deals going right now.

I have riveted all the ones I have done. IMO, the screws for the trunnion are cheesy, and its more work to tap the holes than it is to rivet. I know some people use screws just for the trigger guard, as it can be tricky to rivet without spending the money on a special jig.

I use a new, split point 1/8" drill bit to drill out all the old rivets. I center punch the heads, and use a hand drill. I do the front trunion rivets after removing the barrel.

Make sure you dont damage the selector stop plate. Its located between a piece of old receiver and the trigger guard, and is held on with four rivets.

I use home made tools for all the rivets. Modified bolt cutters for the front trunnion rivets, either a hammer or press for the trigger guard rivets, and usually a hammer for the rear. I have dimpled bucking bars I use for all of them.

I need to improve my finish methods. Eventually, I would like to make a park tank/ blast cabinet, but for now I am using high temp ceramic paint. I used the cheap perma blue at walmart on one for a 'beater' look. Thats about all that stuff is good for. I will probably try duracoat one day as well.

EDIT: I made my own barrel pin and barrel remover tools as well. I can usually have a barrel out in less than ten minutes, which is much faster than trying to tap six blind holes for screws

I'm anxious for all this to get here now. I'm still going to have to get a couple of pieces to make it compliant, but it's going to take some work. After I get it bent (and that's if I can get it bent correctly the first time), I'll have to heat treat it, finish it, then put it together. Your information is going to be invaluable. Thanks for the info, and I'm sure I'll have to hit you up again soon. It'll be a lot more fun to build it from scratch than buy one off the shelf. If this one isn't a train wreck, I'll definitely do another, but the next one will be an underfolder.

Underfolder kits are getting harder and harder to find. I got all of my UF kits from individuals. My next is going to be a Yugo UF, and then I am going to try welding new side plates in on a milled receiver kit. Should be fun. The best advice I can give is ' TAKE YOUR TIME" my first build was a littel rough around the edges because I was getting in a hurry for no reason.

Check out apexgunparts.com for compliance parts. They have a $35 kit that includes the pistol grip, gas piston, and three piece FCG. I need a US FCG, and will split the cost with you if you want to go that route. That piston and grip will be the two more parts you need to be compliant.

I'm going to start going through the Midway catalog again. I've got a couple that have been collecting dust. I want a nice, black finish on it; a little better than what comes on the Century guns.

I was thinking I'd need a muzzle brake, a grip, and a piston to make it legal. The kit I ordered has the G2 trigger group that Tapco puts out, so that's my US FCG, otherwise I'd go in with you. Military Gun Supply is 15 minutes from my house and they have boxes of that stuff for next to nothing, so getting the US parts should be easy. I always wanted the G2 group for the WASR I had, but instead I ended up doing some filing on the junk that came with it to make it work better until I pawned it off on my cousin.

You only need two more US parts, as you need six total on a stamped AKM with muzzle brake.

FCG(3)
Pistol grip
Piston
Receiver

That is your six parts, leaving you with ten (counted) imported parts.

The FCG that comes in the $35 kit is (usually) the same Century trigger in the high cap WASRs. I know they need a bit or work to make them decent, but its easy to make them into a smooth two stage trigger if you know where to grind.

EDIT: I need to stop by MGS some time, just to see what they have

My Century had a severe case of trigger slap, but it had that big 20lb chunk of metal on the back of the disconnector that I had to grind off to stop that.

MGS is even better if you have a type 03 FFL. I saved the FFL fee two times over on the first two rifles I bought with it in there. They had a table at the gun show. They were at the back near the jewelry towards the center.

I put away about 40 dove's this past weekend with my O/U. You can have all the pumps and autoloaders you want. If I can't get it by the second shell, third is a waste. I shot this one dove this weekend that was wearing an oxygen mask. Droped him in the top of a 50 ft oak tree. My buddy could not believe I made the shot. Best thing about O/U is having different chokes in the barrells. My .02
