they are doing an 1/8 mile drag race out at TMS every friday night. They only have two more weeks left. It is pretty cool to watch and for some of you who think you have a fast car, It would be cool to race. Cost $20 to run what you brung, all you need is for the car or truck to be street legal and a helmet. There is a guy out there with a grand cherokee srt8 that won it one week and usually does pretty well. Practice starts at seven and the races start at nine pm. there is no lights or times, A guy drops his arms at the start and first one to the end wins. It is pretty cool you should check it out.

hmm...and this is legal, right?
J.
I saw a sign at TMS about it.
Sounds like a good time. Don't they do the same thing just north of Denton?
I am surprised TMS doesn't have lights/clock:confused:
You would think they could afford it.

Come on now. Can't have proper drag racing, w/o the light start and timed finish! We had all of that years ago in another lifetime running street cars on the drag strip.

Hmm. Didn't know they were doing it. Where are they running an 1/8 mile? All they have at TMS is the oval, road course, Legends oval, and dirt track.

it seems like a lot of money to basically be street racing, why not street race for free?

It only cost $7 bucks to watch. There was a nissan GTR out there last week that was fast. A couple of shelby mustangs and some brand new 2010 camaro's. But that jeep kicks butt.

Only if that thing was 1k lbs lighter it would be even faster. That GC is heavy.

They do the same thing every weekend off of 30 east, towards Greenville. They have a tree and time slips.

Couple years ago, delivering test cars to the Phoenix Motor Speedway, the run what your brought deal was going on the 1/4 mile strip. There was a Vette powered TJ out there that was just phenomenal. I really don't know how the guy kept it on the track. It was wanting to get air born something fierce. Wish I could recall the 1/4 mile time(s) he was turning. Nonetheless it was entertaining to watch!

Yep... the have an 1/8th mile track just north of Denton that runs every weekend. It's right on I-35 on the southbound side... you can't miss it. They have a tree, time slips and everything. There's some pretty serious cars out there quite often. CHeck it out sometime...

Friday night date night - started out at Babe's in Roanoke, my wife saw a news clip about the drag and brag so we went out to TMS after dinner, it was really pretty cool. I thought about running the wife's car ('09 Pontiac G8 GT) but just decided to kick back and watch. We stayed until the end (1 am). My favorite was Robbie Bobby's Mercedes, that was a fast puppy!
So, on Saturday we're in East Texas (Atlanta) for a family wedding. On the way back on I-30 I ask if she'd want to stop by Redline, sure enough. Saturday nights are Fun n Grudge and also Top Gun (I think) running a 5.80 index. It was fun to watch. Will probably run her car sometime.
Used to drag in my old 5.0 out at Kennedale (still around? my car burned to the ground out there), Texas Motorplex, Cedar Creek, etc. Ran 7.60 in the 1/8. High 11's/low 12's in the quarter. Decently fast for what it was back then.

My Step Brother got a 09 G8 GT... I'm waiting for it to get paid off before he mods it if he ever does.
His wife might not let him mod it.

I can tell you this from past experience though, no matter how fast it is, it's NEVER fast enough! LOL
But it might just be as fast as your wallet (or checking account) can afford! LOL

I think the one you are thinking about is off of Coit and Royal. And if so yes but it was a Mustang meet in general. The only meets I go to in the Cobra are Dallas Mustang, Ricekiller, and Kellers Burgers in Dallas. Other than that its just a toy. Too much into it to drive it like a daily lol.
