Play in the front drive shaft

I was working under the jeep today when I grabbed the front drive shaft to move and noticed it would move. I can move it back and forth and was wondering how much play is normal if any? I locked it in 4 wheel drive and was unable to move it at all. It has 4.88s and a lockrite.

A little is just fine, it's a coarse splined shaft so it's gonna have some play.

I can probably rotate mine 1/16 of a turn. It comes in handy when I need to line up the zerk fitting to grease it on the upper u-joint... although I still tend to always park the jeep in such a way that it is still a pain to reach through my shovel of a skid plate. Eventually I'll replace it with one of the non-greasable types.

Required backlash in the ring & pinion and t-case will also give you some "slop" in the driveshaft.
